Emma alternative with no bank connection
Emma is a UK money app that connects to your bank accounts through Open Banking and helps you budget. Subscriptrack does one narrower job: it builds a list of your subscriptions from your receipts, with no bank connection. If you want a full view of your money, Emma does more. If you only want to know what you pay for, and you would rather not connect your bank, read on.

The main difference
Emma starts from your bank data, so it can show everything you spend, and budgets and transfers sit on top of that. It says this connection is read-only, through Open Banking. That is regulated and widely used, but it still means an app sees your whole transaction history.
Subscriptrack starts from the receipts already in your inbox. It never connects to a bank, so it only sees what you forward, the receipts in an Outlook inbox you connect, or a statement you choose to upload.
When Emma is the better choice
- You want budgets, spending categories and a view of all your accounts.
- You are happy to connect your bank through Open Banking.
- You want a free plan and have only a couple of bank logins.
When Subscriptrack is the better choice
- You would rather not connect a bank at all.
- Your statement says APPLE.COM/BILL or PAYPAL, and you want to know what is behind it. Receipts name the actual service and plan.
- You want trial and renewal alerts, a calendar link and cancel steps, with nothing else to set up.
- You want to use it in a browser on any computer.
What Subscriptrack does not do
It does not budget, categorise all your spending or move money. It is paid after the trial, and it has no free plan. A subscription that never sends a receipt will only appear if it is on a statement you upload or you add it by hand.
See everything you pay for
Subscriptrack reads your receipts and builds one list of your subscriptions, with renewal reminders and no bank login.
Questions
- Is Open Banking safe?
- It is a regulated system, and access is read-only in apps like this. The trade-off is privacy, not usually security: the app sees all your transactions, not only your subscriptions.
- Can I use both?
- Yes. They do not conflict. Some people use a budgeting app for spending and a receipt tracker for renewals and trials.
- Does Subscriptrack work with UK banks?
- It does not connect to any bank, so it works whichever bank you use. You can upload a statement from any of them as a PDF or CSV.
