How to find forgotten subscriptions
Forgotten subscriptions hide in different places, because they were bought in different ways. Check these five places in order and you will find nearly all of them. It takes about 30 minutes.

Five places to check
- Your iPhone. Open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions. This lists everything billed through Apple, including apps you deleted.
- Your Android phone. Open the subscriptions page in Google Play, or go to Settings, Google, your name, Manage your Google Account, then Payments & subscriptions. Deleting an app does not cancel its subscription.
- PayPal. Open Settings, then Payments, then manage your automatic or pre-approved payments. Menu names differ by country and app version, and some services bill through PayPal without saying so.
- Your email. Search for receipt, invoice, renewal, subscription and your membership. Search each old email address you still use. Check the last 13 months, so you catch yearly charges too.
- Your statements. Go through 13 months of card and bank statements and mark every charge that repeats. Look for small amounts, and for names you do not recognise.
What to do with each one
If you need steps, the cancel guides cover 198 services with official links. To speed up the statement check, paste a statement into our free checker, which runs in your browser.
- Write down the name, the amount, how often it bills and the next date.
- Decide to keep it, downgrade it or cancel it. Yearly plans need the most care, because they renew without warning and cost the most.
- Cancel directly with the company. Stopping a card payment does not end a contract, so you could still owe money.
- Keep each cancellation email until after the next billing date.
Why subscriptions get forgotten
Free trials turn into paid plans. Yearly plans bill so rarely that you forget them. Family members sign up on a shared card. Small charges do not stand out on a statement, and an app can go on billing long after you delete it from your phone.
Do it once, then keep it up to date
A one-off clear-out helps, but new subscriptions and price rises arrive all the time. Subscriptrack keeps the list for you. Forward receipts or connect Outlook, and new charges appear on their own, with alerts before renewals, trial ends and after price rises.
If you only want a one-off clear-out, the 30-day pass is one payment with no renewal.
See everything you pay for
Subscriptrack reads your receipts and builds one list of your subscriptions, with renewal reminders and no bank login.
Questions
- How far back should I look?
- Thirteen months. That covers every monthly charge and catches yearly plans too, including ones that renewed a few weeks ago.
- Can I get a refund for a subscription I forgot?
- It depends on the company and where you live. There is usually no automatic right to a refund for a charge you agreed to, but many companies will refund a recent renewal if you ask politely and quickly.
- Does deleting an app cancel it?
- No. Deleting an app from your phone does not cancel the subscription. Cancel it in the App Store, Google Play or with the company.
